Take hold of the future, seize your destinyLe Chemin Christmas Baskets
In December 2011 our church partnered with fifteen businesses in the area to make a difference in the lives of families in need. In three weeks we were able to raise $37,500 and we distributed 150 Christmas baskets valued at $250 each. Imagine the difference we could make this year if 100 businesses or organizations decided to join forces. In 2012 let’s broaden our reach and multiply the blessing! If you would like to contribute to the 2012 Christmas basket project, please email us at eglise@lechemin.ca.

In November 2009, we visited Port-au-Prince to establish new contacts with the church in Haiti. Then there was the earthquake… Since then we have continued our trips and our support of the United Evangelical Church of Port-au-Prince and Pastor Lloyd Mompoint, as well as the King's Hospital orphanage, which is directed by Doctors Hubert and Junie Morquette. A ROOF FOR HAITI becomes A SCHOOL FOR HAITI Our first major project was to build a roof over the United Evangelical Church. The congregation had been meeting in the basement for a long time and installing a roof on the main floor would allow for growth of the church and it would be a sign for the whole neighborhood that a slum could be transformed. We had blueprints made by an engineer from Haiti, while planning on using local specialized labour. The estimated cost to install a roof with a steel structure was $25,000, so we started a fundraising campaign that mobilized people in an extraordinary way. Then on October 9, 2011, during the Thanksgiving Sunday morning service, in a historic revival offering members of Église Le Chemin gave $32,000. For the entire project, thanks to the generosity of everyone and with the participation of some local merchants, we were able to raise more than $50,000, double our original goal. Not only was a roof built, but the whole building of the United Evangelical Church was renovated, sending a signal of hope to the entire community. On February 19, 2012, in Port-au-Prince, eight members of Église Le Chemin attended the inauguration. Our current project is to unite partners to rebuild the school that was completely destroyed by the earthquake. This new school will accommodate 200 children. The cost for the first phase of the project is $263,000. Our goal is to see this achievement accomplished by this fall. We already have serious partners for the largest part of the funding, but there are still unmet needs, particularly for equipment. With the school added to the church, another big step will be made for transforming the lives of thousands of Haitians. If you would like to contribute financially to the project A SCHOOL FOR HAITI, you can do so on Sunday mornings by writing "Haiti" on your offering envelope, or by making a donation online on our website. |
